Abstract:
The democratic transformation of South Africa in the early 1990s has presented a new generation of South African policymakers with both the opportunity and the challenge of incorporating children's needs and rights into a central position in national development strategies. This paper reviews the rationale, priorities and mechanisms which are being developed in South Africa to pursue these goals.
