Abstract: As the basis of the national economy, energy has been of importance in the course of China's economic development. Due to the increasing attention to the environmental problems incurred in the production and use of energy since the beginning of the 1980s, environmental protection has become a major factor for consideration in formulating China's energy development strategy and programme.
