Frost heaving and related landforms, Mongolia

R. Lomborinchen

Permafrost and Periglacial Processes, 2000, vol. 11, issue 1, 85-90

Abstract: Between 1963 and 1965, a frost heave experimental station was operated on the floodplain of the Selbe‐Gol River near Ulaanbaatar. During this time the first reliable data on frost heaving in Mongolia were obtained. The amount of heaving measured in light loamy sand was 7–13 mm/a while in loamy soil it was 22–25 mm/a. In northern Mongolia various types of frost mounds occur. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
