Automated mapping of mountain permafrost using the program PERMAKART within the geographical information system ARC/INFO

Permafrost and Periglacial Processes, 1992, vol. 3, issue 2, 133-138

Abstract: The application PERMAKART of the glaciological information system KRYO on ARC/INFO plots supposed mountain permafrost distribution on any topographical map. Results of fieldwork since 1970 and surface analyses based on a digital terrain model (DTM) are used. In Switzerland PERMAKART could become a planning tool for decisions about possible occurrence of mountain permafrost because the DTM RIMINI is available for the entire country.
