Child Poverty and Youth Unemployment in Jordan

Abstract: The main purposes of this article were to investigate the extent and depth of child poverty and youth unemployment in Jordan. In addition, it investigates the sociocultural connotation of child poverty and youth unemployment and the roles of state, society, and civic organizations in responding to these twin problems; as Syrian refugees currently constitute around one‐fifth of Jordan's population, the plight of Syrian children and youth is also addressed. The importance and urgency of the twin problems of poverty and unemployment, especially in relation to children and youth, are reflected in the speeches and correspondence of King Abdullah II. 本文主要目的是调查约旦儿童贫困和青年失业的程度。本文同时考察了儿童贫困和青年失业的社会文化内涵，以及国家、社会和公民组织在应对这两个问题时扮演的角色。随着叙利亚难民如今已达到约旦人口的五分之一，本文还研究了叙利亚儿童和青年面临的困境。贫困和失业这对孪生问题的重要性和紧迫性，尤其是儿童及青年方面相关的，都在阿卜杜拉二世的演讲和谈话中有所反映。 Los objetivos principales de este documento fueron investigar el alcance y la profundidad de la pobreza infantil y el desempleo juvenil en Jordania. Además, investiga la connotación sociocultural de la pobreza infantil y el desempleo juvenil y las funciones del Estado, la sociedad y las organizaciones cívicas para responder a estos problemas gemelos. Como los refugiados sirios constituyen actualmente alrededor de una quinta parte de la población de Jordania, la difícil situación de los niños y jóvenes sirios también está dirigido. La importancia y la urgencia de los problemas gemelos de la pobreza y el desempleo, especialmente en relación con los niños y los jóvenes, se reflejan en los discursos y la correspondencia del Rey Abdulla II.
