Triangulating the path: Globalization, development, and migration in developing countries

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze how globalization responds to migration and development. Migration, globalization, and development are interconnected forces shaping our world, where the movement of people across borders, the spread of ideas and technologies, and socioeconomic progress influence and transform societies on a global scale. We argue that the interaction between globalization, migration, and development is three‐way, and that globalization does not always promote migration. To support our argument, we conducted an extensive review of the relevant literature. Content and contextual analyses were also conducted to provide a good overview of contemporary discourse on the three concepts: globalization, migration, and development. Of course, the interaction between globalization and development is controversial. Some argue that globalization has a negative impact on development. Others believe that globalization has been an important factor in reducing poverty and has led to faster improvements in life expectancy and other indicators of progress. We attempt to provide a theoretical framework to explain how globalization, migration, and development affect each other. La migración, la globalización y el desarrollo son fuerzas interconectadas que dan forma a nuestro mundo, donde el movimiento de personas a través de las fronteras, la difusión de ideas y tecnologías y el progreso socioeconómico influyen y transforman las sociedades a escala global. Sostenemos que la interacción entre globalización, migración y desarrollo es triple y que la globalización no siempre promueve la migración. Para respaldar nuestro argumento, realizamos una revisión extensa de la literatura relevante. También se realizaron análisis de contenido y contexto para proporcionar una buena visión general del discurso contemporáneo sobre los tres conceptos: globalización, migración y desarrollo. Por supuesto, la interacción entre globalización y desarrollo es controvertida. Algunos sostienen que la globalización tiene un impacto negativo en el desarrollo. Otros creen que la globalización ha sido un factor importante en la reducción de la pobreza y ha llevado a mejoras más rápidas en la esperanza de vida y otros indicadores de progreso. Intentamos proporcionar un marco teórico para explicar cómo la globalización, la migración y el desarrollo se afectan entre sí. Este estudio tiene importantes implicaciones políticas tanto para el Sur como para el Norte Global.
