COMMENTARY – THE BOSNIAN TINDERBOX

Abstract: Given the pace of contemporary events, this brief commentary is intended as an addendum and recent update to our original research article that is also published in this issue of World Affairs(vol. 185, no. 2) entitled “The High Representative in Bosnia‐Herzegovina: The Unusual Institutional Arrangement of a Non‐Authoritarian, yet Controlled, Democracy” (see Dijkstra and Raadschelders 2022). We focus here on Russia's role in Bosnia and raise some tentative questions that are likely to remain extremely important for world affairs in the Balkans and beyond over the coming months. This commentary was submitted to World AffairsJournal some days before the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Given the extreme unpredictability of the situation regarding Ukraine and Russia, we elected not to provide substantive updates since late February 2022. Dado el ritmo de los acontecimientos contemporáneos, este breve comentario pretende ser un apéndice y una actualización reciente de nuestro artículo de investigación original que también se publica en este número de Asuntos Mundiales (vol. 185, no. 2) titulado “El Alto Representante en Bosnia‐ Herzegovina: El arreglo institucional inusual de una democracia no autoritaria, pero controlada” (ver Dijkstra y Raadschelders 2022). Nos centramos aquí en el papel de Rusia en Bosnia y planteamos algunas preguntas tentativas que probablemente seguirán siendo extremadamente importantes para asuntos mundiales en los Balcanes y más allá en los próximos meses. 鉴于当代大事件的快速发展形势，本篇短评论文旨在补充和更新我们在本期《世界事务》（第185卷，第2期）中发表的原创研究文章《波黑高级代表：一个非威权主义但仍被控制的民主国家的不寻常制度安排》（参见 Dijkstra and Raadschelders 2022）。本文中我们聚焦于俄罗斯对波黑产生的影响，并提出一些不确定的问题，这些问题很有可能在未来几个月里对有关巴尔干地区的《世界事务》研究而言仍然极具重要性。
