Beyond Trade Wars

Xianbai Ji and Xin Tong

East Asian Policy (EAP), 2025, vol. 17, issue 02, 107-125

Abstract: The Asia-Pacific remains a region of strategic importance, where nations compete for power and influence, despite rising exclusionism that undermines the international order. Unlike prevailing literature on geopolitics and security, this article examines the current dynamics and trends shaping the US–China geoeconomic competition. It also explores how Donald Trump’s tariff war would impact China’s and the Asia-Pacific’s multidimensional fields beyond the immediate economic effects on trade balance. It concludes with policy recommendations for Asia-Pacific countries to ease the geoeconomic tensions between the two superpowers.
