Evolving China-Indonesia Relations: From Jokowi to Prabowo

Abstract: China-Indonesia relations have deepened remarkably over the past decade, characterised by growing political trust, economic interdependence and multilateral cooperation. Key achievements under Jokowi and emerging trends under Prabowo include increased security collaboration, pragmatic dispute management and greater involvement of non-state actors, driven by both geopolitical and domestic drivers. While prospects remain positive, mounting geopolitical pressures, structural asymmetries, fragmented cooperation mechanisms and controversies concerning Chinese investments in Indonesia pose challenges.
