Abstract: Derived from a set of business models for electronic commerce, a system architecture based on XML is introduced, which supports the proposed business models adequately. The modular design of the architecture and its flexibility is demonstrated by a sample application, which implements an online supermarket based on a franchising business model. To show the flexibility of the architecture, personalization components are designed and implemented in the sample application.
