Abstract:
Any enterprise must undertake evaluation processes in order to select the best R&D projects to help expand their business opportunities, and then make R&D investment decisions. This study presents an evaluation tool for such projects. An assessment of various types of project proposals is conducted, based on a number of assumptions. First, to what extent are these intended projects connected with the business or technology strategy of the enterprise in question? Second, how can these projects contribute to both the business and future growth prospects of the firm? Finally, will the company be able to complete the projects with its current manpower and technology? To confirm the validity of the methods used by the proposed assessment tools, this paper gives several concrete examples, complete with numeric figures. The data have been made available through a kind cooperation with one of the leading automobile companies in Japan.
