Abstract: This paper investigates the impact of knowledge management on business practice and proposes a software environment that is in line with our vision. It necessarily ties together a plethora of interrelated computing disciplines — including artificial intelligence, database systems, and software development environments. These disciplines are treated from an applications perspective. The counter-terrorism domain was chosen to demonstrate the links between the technologies and corporate requirements as well as to demonstrate the practical values that can be achieved under the current state of development and business culture. In keeping with our vision, it is further demonstrated that the large volume of commercial and corporate data can be effectively used and controlled through the integration of data and knowledge management techniques to meet real-time information services.
