Abstract:
The Aichi biodiversity targets were established by the UN convention of biological diversity and consist of 20 specific targets to address and mitigate biodiversity loss across the globe. We consider countries in East and South Asia. Countries in East and South Asia are very different in size and level of economic development. As such Sustainable Development Goal challenges vary greatly across countries. The 2022 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) provides a quantitative basis for comparing, analyzing, and understanding environmental performance for 180 countries. The EPI score and rank these countries on their environmental performance using the most recent year of data available and calculate how these scores have changed over the previous decade. We determine the similarity between the country achievement rankings of the Aichi Targets and the EPI rankings.
