Abstract:
The surface structure of${\rm{Rh}}\left( {111} \right) - \left( {\sqrt 3 \times \sqrt 3 } \right)R30^ \circ -{\rm{Na}}$has been analyzed with dynamical low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) at 30 K: a simple Na overlayer is found adsorbed in the unusual hcp-hollow site. LEED theory and computer power have progressed to the point where such a detailed surface structure determination, which includes fitting many structural parameters, is routinely possible even with a portable computer, in this instance a 486/25 MHz notebook computer, using automated tensor LEED.
