Abstract: Calculations are presented for the spin-wave excitations in some bilayer solid structures represented by the Ising Hamiltonian in a transverse field. The theory is applicable to real ferromagnetic materials with anisotropic exchange when placed in a transverse magnetic field, and also, within a pseudospin formalism, to order-disorder ferroelectrics. It is shown that there may be excitations localized near the surfaces and interface of the coupled magnetic system, depending on the parameters of the model, in addition to the modified bulk spin waves. Specific calculations are carried out for two special cases, namely, a ferromagnetic thin film and an interface between two different ferromagnetic media. The analytic results are illustrated by means of numerical examples.
