Abstract:
Axial and triaxial shapes of Na clusters are determined by means of the shell-correction method.1The orbital paramagnetism and the diamagnetism of small Na clusters are calculated. Odd axial clusters may have substantial orbital paramagnetic moments, which are quenched for triaxial shapes. Even clusters show diamagnetism, which is maximal for spherical and attenuated for deformed shape.
