Abstract:
A time-of-flight mass spectrometer of a non-Wiley-McLaren type, employing a single-acceleration method, was modified for collision experiment of cluster ions with solid surfaces. The intrinsic peak shape in the collision-induced electron-detachment-yield curve was determined by improvement in the energy spread of collided ions. A detailed experimental procedure is presented and the electron-detachment process resulting from low-energy collision is discussed.
