Abstract: Intensive efforts are being devoted to improving the techniques of epitaxial growth, with the aim of increasing the quality of newly developed materials. The use of surfactants is one of the latest contributions to this field. Surfactants can be used to modify the structure of epitaxial films in a variety of ways. This article reviews our current knowledge of this subject.
