Abstract:
In STM experiments certain vicinal orientations of missing-row reconstructed (110) facets have been found to be covered by a network of crossing steps. We introduce a simple model to study these networks, which predicts shape instabilities for a range of vicinal orientations. We show some resulting equilibrium facet shapes as well as the global structure of the surrounding regions.
