Abstract: Local symmetry properties of two quasicrystals, an icosahedralAl70Pd20Mn10and a decagonalAl70Co15Ni15, are investigated using the technique of secondary-electron imaging (SEI). An existing structure model is confirmed forAl70Pd20Mn10, where a new basic structure unit, consisting of an alternate stacking of pentagons and center-decorated decagons, is proposed forAl70Co15Ni15. A link between the icosahedral and the decagonal phase is suggested.
