Abstract: The fraction of positrons emitted from a metal surface having a negative work function for positrons has been calculated as a function of incident positron energy and temperature. The model employed considers the diffusion of positrons, trapping into the surface state and in near surface defects. The calculated results in Cu(111) have been compared with the experiments. The maximum yield for positrons in Mo(111) has been found to occur at 600 K for 1 keV positrons.
