Abstract:
Resonant inverse-photoemission spectra of NiAs-type MnTe have been measured with the tunable photon energy mode at kinetic energies of incident electrons(Ek)in the Mn 3p–3d excitation region. The peak structure at 2.9 eV above the valence-band maximum (VBM) is resonantly enhanced atEk= 50eV and is attributed to transitions tod6final states with5Eand5T2symmetries. The broad structure around 12 eV above the VBM in the spectrum atEk= 46.5eV and a shoulder on the higher energy side of the main peak at 2.9 eV in the spectrum atEk= 50eV is assigned to${\rm d}^7 \underbar{\rm L}$final states and d6final states with3Γsymmetries, respectively, where$\underbar{\rm L}$stands for a ligand hole and Γ an irreducible representation.
