Abstract:
The oxidation ofTi19Al18La4N57coating was studied at 600°C, 700°C, and 800°C for up to 30 h in air. The coating consisted of fineTi3Al3N2polycrystals. The oxides formed were an amorphous mixture ofAl2O3,TiO2, andLa2O3. During oxidation, nitrogen diffused out from the coating. The addition of 4 at.%Lato theTiAlNcoating deteriorated the soundness of the oxide film formed.
