Abstract:
Today, organizations must constantly adapt to internal and external factors’ development in order to be successful. Continuous change has become rather a situation of normality than the exception. Today in European Union the most significant part in small, medium or large business are human. In that area it is important who does the management process and what are his/her competence. In the article, there has been made an attempt to analyse the idea of competence on the basis of some definitions. A theoretical and practical approach has been considered, especially drawing attention at professional and personal competences and skills. The article also presents the results of the research, done on managers in Poland and compared to the opinions of students studying management and marketing at the Rzeszow University. The analysis follows that a contemporary manager ought to possess, first of all, the skills of communicating, employee motivating, decision making, but he also knows how to plan and organize efficiently and effectively the activities of the organization he runs.
