Desarrollo financiero en Ecuador: Análisis de la concentración del sector cooperativo de ahorro y crédito del segmento 1

Abstract: This paper focuses on the analysis of the evolution of the concentration of the credit union sector of segment 1 in Ecuador, during the period between 1994 to 2016. To carry out this analysis has used the information in the Superintendency of Popular and solidarity economy of Ecuador, through the historical financial bulletins.To measure the concentration level, the indexes of Herfindahl-Hirschman, dominance index and Kwokadominance index were determined. The variables considered were total assets, total gross portfolio and total deposits. The results obtained empirically demonstrate a low level of concentration, maintaining a growing trend in the last decade in this financial sector.
