Abstract: The present study analyzes the market concentration of the medicinal chemical manufacturing industry using the Herfindahl-Hirschman index. To analyze the competition of the pharmaceutical sector in Ecuador, it was used the database of Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguroswhich contains the income salesof companies that operate in the sector during the period 2010-2017.As conclusions should be noted that the market participation is concentrated in big companies and it is priority of the official entities to encourage the development of this sector.
