Abstract:
This article analyzes 35 economies from 7 regions (East Asia and the Pacific, Eurasia, Europe and North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa) between 2015 -2018 to determine whether corruption influences competitiveness. The results evidence a negative correlation between the variables; however, it is not significant. In other words, corruption does influence a country's competitiveness, but the magnitude is not known, especially when considering unquantifiable costs. For future research, the incorporation of new variables is recommended to expand the capacity of analysis.
