Abstract:
The aim of this research is to estimate and analyze the gender wage gap in adjusted terms. Econometric estimates were made using three models: Ordinary Least Squares to identify the factors that influence wage determination, Oaxaca-Blinder to estimate the wage difference between men and women, and Decomposition by quantiles to realize the effect of gender on wages throughout the distribution of income. A database of 323,700 observations from 2016 was used, which was accessed through the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). The main results highlight that there was no evidence of a gender pay gap in the public sector. However, in the private sector there is a wage gap that is mostly due to gender discrimination and not due to human capital endowments.
