Abstract:
The main objective of this article is to study thelevel of importance that ISO 14001 certification has in the financial performance of Ecuadorian companies. For this, the methodology was used based on the analysis of an observational study carried out by the INEC during 2017, the Structural Survey of Companies, through the application of the Propensity Score Matching (PSM). The use of this statistical technique allows to validate the level of relevance of the ISO 14001certifications in the financial performance of companies, and at the same time, to verify the robustness of the estimates found through a study where the quality of the matchings made is validated. The results show a positive relation between ISO 14001 certification and financial performance, a 65%probability of improvement in the financial performance ofcertified companies, compared to non-certified companies.
