Abstract:
The resource-based approach is a new promising theoretical framework that is applied to the internationalisation of SMEs. Derived from strategic management it provides value-added theoretical propositions about the uniqueness of certain resources that have turned out to be critical for the internationalisation process of SMEs. This paper examines the differences in resource bundles (organisational, financial, and human and social) between internationalised and non-internationalised Slovenian SMEs. The findings are also controlled for the control variables of firm size and age from which valuable propositions and implications are derived for the entrepreneur and those policy-makers who want to increase the number of internationalised SMEs.
