Abstract:
Abstract The following research project tries to create transparency through digitalization within the construction sector. In cooperation with a construction company and the expertise of Teradata, a company specialized in analytic data platforms and solutions, the research institute SCM@ISM explored a cash-flow driven dataset. By using Data Mining and Big Data Analytics the research revealed new insights regarding the investment trend of different building objects and clusters. Cost increases as well as building delays were mostly produced due to problems throughout the planning phase. During this longstanding process it is mandatory to monitor all Stake- and Shareholder to avoid upcoming delays and cost increases. For the creation of an omniscient analytical information hub – a Digital Project Lifecycle Management (DPLM) – the usage of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is only the beginning. Data can be gathered and analyzed throughout the whole lifecycle of a building. Based on the german honorarium code for architects and engineers, a blueprint for all necessary processes along the lifecycle of buildings was created. Germany's construction sector and its usage of BIM Tools are far below compared to usage in the United Kingdom or the USA. Within the last months German public authorities pushed their digitalization strategy and made the usage of BIM mandatory for large public constructions. Implicating an operation period of many years, competive advantage by using advanced decision support systems can be achieved within many ecological and economical aspects.
