Abstract: These words of the French biologist Jean Rostand can be appropriate in certain situations and inappropriate in others, to the extent where the difficulty of communication could provide an opportunity to know the other better, if is accompanied by listening effort. Listening to the other is not only hearing out his/her conversation and seizing the sense of it. It is taking into account the different possible meanings of the used words, their interaction with the social, cultural, symbolic and affective aspects. يمكن أن تكون كلمات عالم الأحياء الفرنسي جان روستاند مناسبة في مواقف معينة وغير ملائمة في حالات أخرى ، إلى الحد الذي يمكن أن توفر فيه صعوبة التواصل فرصة لمعرفة الآخر بشكل أفضل ، إذا كان مصحوبًا بجهد استماع. الاستماع إلى الآخر لا يقتصر فقط على سماع محادثته واستيلاء على معانيها. إنه يأخذ في الاعتبار المعاني المختلفة الممكنة للكلمات المستخدمة وتفاعلها مع الجوانب الاجتماعية والثقافية والرمزية والعاطفية.
