Abstract: The educational potential of modern multimedia tools in higher education is today an actual direction of pedagogical scientific research. It is necessary to theoretically substantiate the possibilities of using multimedia technologies in the language training of foreign students, consider the advantages and disadvantages from the point of view of their use for educational purposes. The formation of foreign language communicative competence of foreign students with the help of multimedia tools can be carried out only under the conditions of a properly organized educational environment, sufficient motivation of students, an effective combination of forms and types of educational activities and independent work of students. The authors present their own methodological developments in the development of all types of speech activity using multimedia technologies, modern social network content, assessment of its possibilities as a learning environment, and the results of comparative studies of their use in language training of foreigners.
