Abstract:
The objective of this paper was to provide background information for in-depth studies on diversification in Botswana's agricultural sector. Success areas, bottlenecks and future opportuniteis and challenges are identified. The paper progress as follows. We begin with a brief description of how agriculture fits in the country's macro-economy. We then discuss land and water resources. This is followed by a brief discussion of the evolution of agricultural policies. We then present intra-sectoral trends to provide some preliminary insights into agricultural diversification.
