Abstract:
This book details CCS deployment in coal power and gauges CO₂ capture potential in industry and fuel conversion, before evaluating necessary CO₂ processing and transport infrastructure. With evolving short and long-term CCS roadmaps, it supplies policymakers with public- and private-sector insights to scale up sustainable CCS demonstration and rollout.Fossil fuels will stay dominant globally for decades, so CCS is a promising tool to curb steep CO₂ emissions by trapping emissions from stationary industrial sources for deep underground storage. Written at the G8’s 2005 Gleneagles request for IEA energy strategy advice, the book analyzes CCS technology costs, storage capacity, regional feasibility, regulatory frameworks, public engagement, and relevant financial and international governance mechanisms.
