China’s Energy Economics and Sustainable Development in the 21st Century

Abstract: We are very glad to have been invited to become Guest Editors for the Special Issue of International Journal of Global Energy Issues on China’s energy economics and sustainable development in the 21st century. After a strict and long review process, now is our privilege to provide you this special issue. Many thanks to all the authors, anonymous reviewers, and editorial team and staff for their contribution and effort to make this special issue possible. We also wish to extend our sincere thanks to Ms. J.S. Yan, Mr. J.M. Li, and Mr. J.T. Zhang for their help and suggestions. The support of CAS and NSFC is greatly acknowledged. A boom in economic development in recent years and the Olympic Game will be held in Beijing in 2008, China’s energy economics and sustainable development deserve special attention. The purpose of this issue is to introduce, exchange, disseminate, and promote research results in various energy issues and sustainable development of China. Eleven papers have been selected to include in this Issue; topics covered include China Energy Technology Program (CETP), Chinese gas market, power-generation sector, electricity supply, energy chain, energy consumption’s industrial structure, harmonious development between energy and economy systems, anti-industrial pollution efficiency, Driving-Force-State-Response (DSR) indicator system, etc. Various kinds of energy are discussed such as coal, hydrogen, gas, and oil. Some methods and models adopted to address the issues of energy economics and sustainable development include Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), internal and external cost analyses, Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA), Integrated Energy Programming Model (IEPM), energy system analysis and modelling, China Regional Energy Trade Model (CRETM), etc. We do hope that this Special Issue will help Journal readers to understand various energy issues and sustainable development of China in the 21st century, and will provide valuable references to practitioners, academics and policy makers.
