Abstract:
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the Ifo institute has accomplished this evaluation study, which analyzes the dimensions and impact of a free trade agreement between the USA and the EU. Accordingly, a comprehensive free trade agreement (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, TTIP) between the two regions, which includes a significant reduction of non-tariff barriers, has the potential for sizeable welfare gains. Medium-sized enterprises benefit particularly from the expected cost reductions. Real wages in Germany would increase by 1.6%, and unemployment is expected to drop slightly. However, sustainable negative effects on the world trading regime are not very likely.
