Abstract: In an increasingly uncertain world, the decade of action for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a reference point and a road map. In the face of growing tensions at both the domestic and international levels, the SDGs are an organizing framework that reflects the broad consensus of governments and civil society around sustainable development with equality at the centre and conflict reduction. This document recognizes that key reference, proposes strategies to bring Latin America and the Caribbean closer to achieving the SDGs, and estimates how much progress has been made and how much remains to be done to meet the targets. It thus contributes to the formulation of policies in line with the Goals and to the combination of the response to the structural problems of the region with the urgent need to address the critical situation arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The remaining challenge is to determine the order of implementation and assess the synergies between the SDGs in order to move more effectively and quickly towards what ECLAC has called “a transformative recovery”.
