Alec Nove on Economic Theory
Edited by Ian D. Thatcher
in Books from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This book is the first of two volumes of Alec Nove’s previously unpublished writings, and it brings together a lifetime of thought and experience of the economics of the real world. Alec Nove believed that economic theory should be constructed from real experience and not simply theory which does not apply to the actual economy. He looks at Marxist and neoclassical laissez faire ideas and argues against these schools of thought in favour of both an efficient and more humane and caring economic system. Alec Nove provides insights into real world economics in this book which includes his papers to policymakers and the manuscript of a previously unpublished textbook on economic theory, The Economics of Relevance, in which he offers practical advice and promotes the importance of quality, responsibility and trust.
