Defining spin-offs and data collection
.
Chapter 2 in The Geography of Academic Entrepreneurship, 2023, pp 19-34 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter the problem of meaningful international and interregional comparisons of USOs’ performance is reviewed. This is related to differing definitions of USO as well as the types of organisations which collect data, which vary by country. This chapter reviews data collection issues and includes a focus on an increasingly important source of university entrepreneurship, that of student and graduate firm formation.
