What university spin-offs do: Sectors, products and services

Chapter 5 in The Geography of Academic Entrepreneurship, 2023, pp 73-85 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter reviews a relatively neglected aspect of USO research, that of the diversity of their contributions to product and service development. While authors have noted that the development and launch of innovation-led products and services is critical to USO’s success, little is known about what they are, and which markets they enter. The chapter explores factors which drive product and service development processes over time, highlighting the conceptual and empirical approaches adopted.
