Coronavirus and sport crisis management: A knowledge spillover perspective

Abstract: This chapter supports the contention that the use of knowledge spillovers can be the most important way of managing the coronavirus crisis for sport organisations. This means in order to increase the effectiveness of knowledge transfer there needs to be appropriate actions regarding deliberate and by-chance knowledge spillovers. Thus, sport decision makers informed by knowledge need to make essential steps in analysing information regarding the ways to manage coronavirus. To do this sport managers need to be adept in strategically analysing knowledge by determining the best way to effectively use knowledge about coronavirus. This might occur through a cyclical progression through which knowledge is effectively utilised in new settings through spillover processes. This chapter discusses ways to manage the coronavirus crisis through initial situation-specific parameters for the knowledge that are identified that then inform subsequent knowledge decisions. Sport managers can than apply the knowledge through the process of informed decision making regarding the coronavirus crisis.
