Tonia Warnecke ()
Chapter 5 in From Microfinance To Middle Class?, 2025, pp 67-90 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter begins with a discussion of female labor force participation in China and India, highlighting its evolution in each country over the past few decades. After reviewing the impacts of economic reforms, cultural norms, and traditions on women's economic activities, the chapter examines one category of these activities (entrepreneurship), focusing on the gender dimension of early-stage entrepreneurship, self-employment, vulnerable employment, and necessity-based entrepreneurship.
