Chapter 9 in Capitalism, Inclusive Growth, and Social Protection, 2023, pp 299-304 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Chapter 9 serves as a concluding chapter, that re-iterates the case for social capitalism as a basis for delivering sustainable and inclusive growth in an economic system characterized by MKS dynamics. Social capitalism is contrasted with both neoliberalism and the ‘traditional’ socialist project that rejects capitalist forces of production, while its conception of both the economy and the structure of civil society are likened to recent visions of revitalized social democracy. The importance of the labour market and the balance of power between social classes as a starting point for social capitalism is once again emphasized, these having been the focus of neoliberal ’reforms’ that have eviscerated the basis for sustainable and inclusive growth in any form.
