Sustainable development
.
Chapter 4 in Unpacking the G20, 2024, pp 59-83 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
As explored in the previous chapter, the G20 has chiefly focused its attention on financial and economic issues. However, since 2008, the G20 has experienced an expansion of its agenda to embrace several other issues of which sustainable development is one of the most salient. This chapter traces the genesis and evolution of the G20’s engagement with the broader issue of sustainable development by focusing on five specific priorities. It highlights which of the G20’s members have championed this development, their motivations and strategies.
