Joseph Alois Schumpeter

Nicola De Liso

Chapter 8 in A Brief History of Economic Thought, 2022, pp 125-147 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The name and the economic theory of Joseph Alois Schumpeter have been getting more and more attention since the 1980s. However, as many scholars note, he was literally a contemporary of John Maynard Keynes since he was born in the same year, i.e. 1883 - the year that Karl Marx died. Schumpeter, Keynes and Marx are interconnected through the year 1883, and many observers (e.g. Samuelson, 1983) start from this coincidence to propose their reflections on the three of them.
