Different age effects by entrepreneur types: an investigation on US boomer entrepreneurs

Ting Zhang and Zoltan Acs

Chapter 7 in Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship and Aging, 2019, pp 192-226 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This study extends the current occupational choice literature on age and entrepreneurship to eight different types of US boomer entrepreneurs. The empirical study relies on monthly Current Population Survey data across 11 years (2006–16). Multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression models are estimated to incorporate individual- and metropolitan-level effects. Among boomer entrepreneurs, we find that novice (versus non-novice) and opportunity (versus necessity) entrepreneur rates rise at higher ages (above 60).
