Chapter 17 in A Research Agenda for Transport Policy, 2019, pp 146-154 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter examines a number of issues in transport policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and adjustment in Africa by discussing the role and complexities of informal public transport in Africa, policy issues experienced in the typical African country context and the need for effective and efficient institutional structuring for effective policy administration and implementation. The chapter concludes with the identification of emerging research areas in the African context that ought to assist in the understanding of the complexity of policy making, monitoring and implementation, and if considered, could result in significant improvements in this very important area of government responsibilities.
