Transport economics

David Hensher

Chapter 2 in A Research Agenda for Transport Policy, 2019, pp 7-15 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter discusses a few current and emerging themes that have an economics focus in supporting advice to decision makers. We begin with a holistic context-setting discussion of thinking about the integration of transport and land use planning to inform transport policy, followed by an overview of themes that can better inform this integrative framework. These are the wider economic impacts (WEI) of transport initiatives, and the role of road pricing reform to internalise negative externalities.
