Developing EIA teaching principles
.
Chapter 3 in Teaching Environmental Impact Assessment, 2021, pp 28-38 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The research design and methodology used to develop 29 international best practice principles for teaching EIA is explained. The eight steps involved: establishing research objectives; initial workshop with EIA practitioners to reflect on how EIA is best taught; comprehensive literature review to identify teaching principles; initial international survey of EIA teachers to identify teaching principles; interviews with university teachers and short-course trainers sourced through the International Association for Impact Assessment to identify and clarify teaching principles; survey of EIA teachers to rate the relative importance of each teaching principle for university and professional training purposes; final workshop with EIA teachers to map experiences with teaching the principles; and compilation and analysis of EIA teaching recipes in relation to the best practice EIA teaching principles.
